Do you have a favorite line or lines from your accepted pieces for The Ginger Collect?
The last line
What inspired your piece?
I exchange six words with another poet and we each write sestinas from both sets of words, and “ginger” was one of them. J.P. Donleavy, the author of The Ginger Man, had just passed away, so I thought a sestina titled “The Ginger Woman” would be interesting.
Who is your most influential writer? Who do you always go back to for inspiration?
Bukowski, Merwin, Strand, James Tate, Stephen Dobyns
What season do you find you write the most in?
All of them
Do you ever create soundtracks for the piece(s) you’re writing?
I listen to I Tunes set to shuffle.
Do you keep any snacks around while you write? If so, what’s your favorite?
Coconut coated cashews
What do you want readers to take away from your piece?
A sense of play with the language and seriousness underneath the comedy.
Do you find writing invigorating or exhausting?
What is your ideal writing environment?
My writing room with its music.
Do you have any future writing plans?
Writing as much as I can.
You can read David Spicer’s piece in Issue Four of The Ginger Collect: The Ginger Woman.
